a pathologic process, characterized by splitting of the media layer of the aorta, which leads to formation of a dissecting aneurysm. Classified according to location as follows: type I involves the ascending aorta, transverse arch, and distal aorta; type II is confined to the ascending aorta; type III extends distally in the descending aorta usually from a starting point just distal to the left subclaviar artery.

aneurysms in the ascending aorta is caused by hypertension while aneurysms in the abdominal aorta is caused by atherosclerosis.

There are two variants of AAAs

the mycotic AAA which is the atherosclerotic infected by lodgement of salmonella ( suppurative organism ) for ex. or
the Inflammaotry AAA which is a dense periaortic fibrosis with a chronic cellular inflammatory infiltrate

Genes also can play a role if ur talking about marphan syndrome as an etiological factor

Mechanism of Marphan in AAA :

Since it is a genetic CT ( connective tissue ) component defect , proteolysis of abnormal collagen by macrophage enzymes will also lyse all ECM component in the arterial wall predisposing it to an atherosclerotic plaque

iatrogenic factors also can have a strong link with both aneurysm and dissecting hematoma

but i was wondering

if atherosclerosis leads to hypertension can we say that an AAA can aggrevate an ascending aortic aneurysm ?
