It consists of infection of the liver capsule and peritoneal surfaces of the anterior right upper quadrant, with minimal stromal hepatic involvement. It manifests as a patchy purulent and fibrinous exudate in the acute phase, most prominently affecting the anterior surfaces of the liver; the classic "violin string" adhesions between the anterior liver surface and the apposed parietal peritoneum of the anterior abdomen are its legacy. It is now recognized that urogenital Chlamydia trachomatis infection accounts for about 90 percent of cases
